LOCATION

Picnic Cinema will be located on the lawn north of the Spencer Road entrance.  Access is either from Spencer Rd, or else follow the footpath down from Napier Terrace.  Please be advised, though, that the footpath from Napier Terrace is steep and has steps so it isn’t suitable for those with limited mobility.

MOVIE START TIMES

The gate opens 45 minutes before each movie starts.  Prior to the movie starting we’ll be showing some trailers for other movies and also, before each evening movie, a Kiwi short film.  Be sure to arrive in plenty of time to enjoy your picnic.

PARKING

There’s limited on-street parking in the immediate vicinity of the Botanical Gardens and you may need to walk a few hundred metres.  Most of the available parking is at the top end of the park around Napier Terrace.  Please note that the parking spaces at the entrance to the Botanical Gardens off Spencer Rd will be reserved for cars with Mobility Parking Permits only. Parking officers will be present to enforce this.

SEATING

Picnic Cinema doesn’t provide seating.  Please bring some low seats, or else a picnic blanket, and some cushions or bean bags.  If you bring a normal height seat please be considerate to other members of the audience and place your seat at the back of the fenced area.

TICKET SALES

It’s best to buy tickets in advance through the Picnic Cinema website.  That way you won’t have to queue to buy tickets (and risk missing the start of the movie!).  Please note: ticket sales at the door are EFTPOS only – no cash sales.

TOILETS

The public toilets next to the lawn will be kept open.  There’ll also be additional portaloos nearby.

PASS-OUTS

All ticket holders will receive a coloured wristband specific to your movie session.  The wristband must be worn at all times inside the fenced area and it will allow pass-out access so you can re-enter the fenced area if, for instance, you leave to use the toilets.

FOOD 

There won’t be any food trucks at Picnic Cinema.  We recommend you bring your own picnics, or else you can buy a take-away from Napier.  We will have yummy Duck Island ice creams for sale (EFTPOS only – no cash sales).

RUBBISH

There will be no rubbish bins on site.  Please take your rubbish away for recycling at home.  Compostable rubbish bags will be available free of charge.

FIRST AID

There’ll be a trained first-aider with first-aid kit at the entry marquee.  We’ll also have drinking water for you to refill your own bottle, and some sunscreen.
